You’ll hear the terms coached and instructor-led used a lot in the fitness space. From the outside, they can look very similar — people moving together, following a workout, working hard. But while they may appear the same at first glance, they’re designed to do different things.
Both styles play an important role in group fitness, and one isn’t “better” than the other. At our gyms, we’ve intentionally chosen that all our offerings are coached, and here’s why that distinction matters.
The biggest difference between coaching and instructor-led classes isn’t effort or energy — it’s focus.
Coaching is active, hands-on, and centered on the individual within the group. A coach isn’t just calling out the workout or keeping the class moving. They’re watching how you move and responding in real time.
Coached training includes:
This means paying close attention to joint positions, balance, control, breathing, and how fatigue affects technique. These details matter especially when lifting weights or learning new skills. Small adjustments today can make a big difference in how your body feels and performs long term.
Coaching is about meeting you where you are. Whether you’re brand new to fitness or have years under the bar, the goal is the same: help you move better over time.
Instructor-led classes tend to focus more on the experience of the group as a whole. Instructors typically lead from the front, set the pace, and keep the energy high. They’re often:
Disclaimer! There is nothing wrong with the model, it is simply a different service than what we offer!
Coached training often feels different because it’s not just about getting in a workout — it’s about learning and improving while you train.
Members aren’t expected to “just know” how to move or automatically understand every exercise. Questions are welcome. Movement is taught, not assumed. Coaches guide progressions intentionally so skills, strength, and confidence can build over time.
This creates an environment where people feel supported, not rushed. It allows space to slow things down when needed and push appropriately when the time is right.
For us, coached training aligns directly with our mission. We want to see people:

And we wouldn’t have it any other way.
